William Heffernan

My soldier's name is William Heffernan. He was born July 13th, 1887 and he died May 4th, 1917 in Fresnoy, Vimy. He enlisted in Belleville, April 1st, 1916 but he lived his start of his life in Peterborough, Ontario on 640 Reid Street. He was a private, and he died in service, as he was in service his service number was 637004. His regiment was Canadian Infantry 2nd battalion. He was the son of Patrick Heffernan and Isabell Heffernan. Before the war the way he brough in income was that he was a laborer. He has no distinctive marks on his body but some other details about him is that his height was 5 foot 4, he has a dark complexion with brown eyes and black hair. He was a Roman Catholic. He was presumed dead in service. His ‘Form of Will’ was made out to Belle Heffernan, who is his mother. He embarked in Canada and arrived in England, then he proceeded overseas for service. He then arrived in France, he was in the 2nd Battalion. He was then declared missing after the action.  His theater of war was France and on the 22nd of May, 1917 he was reported missing May 3rd over May 4th, 1917. Reported missing for three days before for official purposes he was presumed dead in service. His assigned pay was made out to his mom; Belle Heffernan. From November to May He made 15 dollars a month. Plus an additional 100 dollars in December.  He was 32 years old when he died.  The memorial that William Heffernan is on is the Vimy Memorial.
